Indie band The Killers broke onto the national scene in 2004 with the release of their first album, Hot Fuss. Hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada, the quartet of Brandon Flowers (vocals/keyboard), Dave Keuning (guitar), Mark Stoermer (bass), and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums) quickly took the music charts by storm.
The band formed when lead singer Flowers responded to a local ad by Keuning that named one of Flowers' favorite bands, Oasis, as an influence. "He was the only person to reply to my ad who wasn’t a complete freak," Keuning once said. The first song they wrote together was "Mr. Brightside." Later on, Flowers met Stoermer and Vannucci and recruited them to complete the band. A demo tape managed to make its way to British indie label Lizard King who signed The Killers almost immediately.
The Killers, who draw their name from a name which comes from the bass drum of a fictional band in a New Order music video, had instant success with Hot Fuss, spurred on by the popularity of singles like "Somebody Told Me" and "All These Things That I've Done." Hot Fuss eventually earned five Grammy nominations and sold over five million copies.
Despite a flurry of touring for Hot Fuss, The Killers decided not to take a break, but instead go directly into recording for their sophomore album, Sam's Town. The lead single, "When We Were Young," created high anticipation for the album, which was released in October 2006 and managed to sell over a million copies by January.
The Killers' latest album, Day & Age, was released in November 2008. The lead single, Human, received extensive airplay, and the album jumped onto US charts at number 6, selling 190,000 copies in its first week. It has since gone Platinum in Australia, and Gold in the United States.

“I'm coming out of my cage
And I’ve been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss”
